Shipping

It’s the customer who decides how to ship their order, and the customer who pays the shipping cost (and bears the risks of each shipping method!). For shipping amounts under 1000 USD Hadithi crafts can advance the cost of shipping, and bill the shipping price on the final invoice to the customer together with the price of the goods. Above 1000 USD we ask the customer to pay their own shipping directly to the shipping company.

Once your order is ready to be shipped, we inform the client of the volume and weight of the box(es). We can ask shipping rates for you with our usual shipping partners, listed underneath.

Local shipping within Kenya

In Kenya the courier options are multiple. We normally work with Wells Fargo courier, but also G4s, superstar courier and others are options.

Our shipments leave from our headquarters in Maungu, 30 kms from Voi, Taita Taveta, Kenya. Our office in Maungu is set 1 km off the Mombasa highway, around 130kms from Mombasa (2h drive), 360 kms from Nairobi (6h drive).

International shipping

Maybe you have your own way of shipping and you have an account with a freight forwarder. We can deliver the goods anywhere in Kenya with a local courier, and you can take it from there. If you don’t have your own transporter, these are the options we are familiar with:

·      Direct airfreight

Airfreight can be organised from Mombasa through Pivot cargo services, who charge an average of 550 USD to Europe for the minimum of 100kgs. The weight charged will be whatever is highest: the actual weight or volumetric weight. With baskets generally the volumetric weight is highest, so you will reach 100KGS in exactly three of our boxes. This method of shipping is most economical for larger shipments from 3 boxes. The boxes will then arrive in a customs airport in the country of destination, where the client will have to pick the parcels at customs personally or with a freight forwarder. a EUR1 certificate can be included. Shipping prices are subject to changes, and a quote is asked (covid has raised the price). Not every destination is offered now that airtraffic has considerably diminished, but other airfreight providers are available in Nairobi. Estimated arrival time for airfreight is two weeks.

·      DHL

Hadithi crafts support CBO have an artisan account with DHL, which offers good rates with DHL. These shipping costs are fixed per zones and weights. DHL has boxes of various sizes available, and we will pack your order as small as possible.

Usually the actual weight of a shipment is lower than the volumetric weight, but the weight charged by DHL is always the one that is higher (volumetric or actual). For smaller parcels to US or UK they offer great rates. Estimated arrival time is one to two weeks. They are very reliable.

·      POSTA

The postal service of Kenya also ships internationally. POSTA charges the actual weight of boxes, not the volumetric weight, so for light and bulky shipments that are fairly small (less than 3 boxes), they can be the cheapest option. average arrival time is four weeks. They are not the most reliable option, it has sometimes taken 2 to 6 months, but the parcels do generally arrive eventually.

* * BENELUX and Germany

In the BENELUX (Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg) and germany we partner with Solid Crafts www.solidinternational.be for distribution of our baskets. Their stock is held in their headquarters in Ghent, Belgium. If you are interested in baskets and based in one of those three countries, you can contact Solid directly for supplies! Email for your enquiries: inge@solidinternational.be

* * Boxes and packaging fee

There is a small additional cost of 5 USD per box for packaging. Our big five-ply airfreight boxes measure 65 x 50 x 50 cm and have a volumetric weight of 33kgs. Usually the actual weight of a shipment of baskets is lower than the volumetric (also called dimensional) weight. Baskets are bulky but not very heavy. To ship cost efficiently, its recommended to purchase mixed sizes of baskets so they can be stacked inside one another.
